Is that not also know as stealing, if you think that stealing from your children is fine then go ahead, I have taken money out of their cards before to buy them a present to wrap when they were very young. I would not do it now they are older!!!My mother in law said something to me one time that might help you. It was my daughter’s birthday, and everyone got her a card with money in it, and I made a comment about her being richer than I was. My mother in law said, “Using that money to pay your bills or to buy groceries is the same as using the money toward her.” So my point is- if your child is young enough to not realize what they are getting for presents, use the money for something that you all need. Like food! Or to pay your electric bill! Well, if you are buying food and to keep shelter over their heads, yes. But only in the most extreme emergency. If you have to – do so. But buy them all at least one small toy or gift as well from that cash – and let them know who it was really from – not you. No I think that’s wrong, even if you are a little tight for money. that’s called stealing and all you doing is being two-faced. it isn’t right to set a double standard. what would you do if your kids stole money from you without asking? cuz that’s what your doing to them. Yes, if things are tight and money is needed and the kids don’t need more toys, then I see no reason why you can’t use it for household expenses…or like if they have been wanting to go to the movies and you keep telling that you can’t cause your broke…then take them to the movies with that money…

My kids are 4 and 2 and when we are tight with money…they get it, their grandpa gave them $10 each and my son suggest we all go to dinner with the money…that why I talk to my kids…so that they understand that sometimes we are broke and can use the money for other things than to buy more toys that will be broken in 2 days anyways…do what you feel is best at the moment…and when things get better…you can give them back the money…yeah you could do but only if you make sure the money is spent on things for them..goodies over x mas, bits and pieces that they need
