If the debts are substantial its likely they will follow you. Most banks are multinational, all they need to do is contact a European debt collection company. I don't know enough about you, your plans or US bankruptcy but if the debts are substantial you would probably best to consider bankruptcy before you leave. Then make a fresh start.
