Tax credits will not give you extra money for being off sick, it is not a benefit it is an income top up. if you cannot live you must contact the jobcentre who maybe able to arrange a budgeting or crisis loan for you, or maybe some other kind of benefit to get you byYou can continue to claim Working Tax Credits whilst off sick from work for up to 28 weeks. This is the maximum time an employer has to pay you SSP.

If your employer is not paying you SSP then they must give you an SSP1 form stating why they are not paying you SSP.

If you DO get SSP and your income is still low you can claim income support to top up your SSP

If you CANNOT get SSP then you can claim employment and support allowance. The SSP1 form will be required for this.
