I am in dispute with a debt collection agency I was not given enough time to receive and send a cheque?
October 30, 2009
They should have stipulated the time frame you have to pay at the bottom of the letter, generally 14 days.
contact the company whos wanting bailiff fees and tell them the debt is paid in full, and you want no further communication with the company other than a statement detailing a £0 balance on the account and confirmation it has been settled. Any further contact regarding bailiff fees will be treated as harrassment considering the check was paid and cashed on …… Tell them you are not prepared to pay for their mistake and as the balance was paid before bailiffs called, it it now their bill.
Keep a record of who you speak to, what they say, the bailiffs that called, the date and time of that and anything regardin the payment and cashing of the cheque.
good luck, dont back down and dont pay anything else.If the payment had been made (and cheque cashed) on a day prior to the bailiff calling …then they should not charge you call out fees.
However – they are perfectly entitled to charge you some admin fees.
If you are sure this is bailiff call out fees – then (1) check in with CAB and (2) send a registered letter to the agency office asking for confirmation that they are willing to drop the fee – as the visit was inappropriate and unnecessary.
Good luck

Debt collection agency phone calls how do i stop them?
October 30, 2009
That depends if the debt is that of someone like an ex partner or a previous occupant of your property if it is the latter then it would be easy to prove you are not who they are looking for but if it is of someone you know and they have lived at your address with you then that may be trickier but without more detail that’s the best advise i can offer.
If what you are saying is correct they are not allowed to do this and may be breaking the law. There are a number of things you can do but I would suggest that in the first place you contact the Office of Fair Trading.
www.oft.gov.ukWhen they write to you, they normally give you x number of days for you to reply.
Reply, within that period, explaining the circumstances. Then in the final paragraph, state that if you do not hear from them in the same x days, you will consider the matter closed. They of course, will not reply in that time. But, they have entered a Tacit Agreement, the matter IS NOW closed.
Send by recorded delivery.
Phone calls, put the phone next to the radio/TV.There is web site called www.ftc.gov It’s the fair debt collections act . They have guide lines what collections agency’s can and can not do . They can not call you late in the evening or early morning . they can not call your work place or neighbors .If it’s not your debt you can obtain a lawyer they can hold the legally liable for harassing you . They might owe you money . Seek an attorney plus you must show proof that is not your debt . You send a certified return receipt letter asking the collection agency to "CEASE and DESIST " from contacting me and further more it is not my debt. IF they do not honor this letter you have a case against the collection agency

Bad credit, in debt, help?
October 29, 2009
Pay each debtor the minimum they require.
You don’t need anyone’s help – you can do this yourself.
Go to your library or bookstore and get a bood on debt/credit repair.
It will teach you step by step what to do.
Don’t even consider paying anyone to do this for you – they will simply try to make a profit from you.
/If you can’t do the bank, then the other places will only charge you more interest.
Here’s what you can do…
Pay the minimum amount on all of the debts except for the one with the highest interest rate. Pay a little extra on that, say 50 more per month.
Once that is paid off, use the amount you paid on the first debt you paid off towards the next highest interest rate debt.
Once the second is paid off, use the amount from the first two debts to pay off the third highest debt.
Repeat as necessary. It is important that you do this within your means. I.E. you don’t use credit or run up new bills in the meantime.
Do without. Pay everything on time. Pay cash for whatever you buy. If it’s a toy or luxury that you cannot afford. You do without.
Do not take on any of your partners’ debts. If he wants to go in with you on this plan, get your debts paid off first, or alternate, your debt, his debt, and so on… Do not be trusting, because you don’t want to get left behind again…
Best of luck! And remember! Do without! The first 2 answers are good ones. I would recommend you read the Dave Ramsey book. It helped me.
A strategy he points to is to concentrate on the lowest balance first while paying the minimum on the others. Once it is paid off, apply what you were paying to it to the next lowest balance. And so on. You will pay more interest this way but it will free up cash to really go after the bigger debts down the road. If you are struggling to get by this is the best strategy. After you get the extra cash you go after the high interest debts. With bad credit it would be hard to get a loan from bank. You can search for private lenders. If you are in UK, try here:

There are no broker fees and you do not pay anything extra. With Debt consolidation you can not only consolidate all your debts into just one but also your repayment amount would be lowered.
Do enough search on internet to find the best loan deal for you.

Working tax credit help please?
October 25, 2009
You have to tell them that he is not receiving anything from jobseekers allowance and they will adjust your tax credits accordingly. once your baby is born your working tax will stop because you will obviously not working and u should be entitled to child tax credit instead.
the tax credit office are not there to give you a definate amount of money only an amount to support what u already getYou should inform Tax Credits as soon you know of any change, whether it be regarding information you have previously given them or new circumstances. They will adjust your award accordingly and this will mean you get what you should, when you should and not create overpayments.
You are entitled to Working Tax Credit throughout the period you are receiving Statutory Maternity Pay as you are still employed at this time.
When baby is born you will be enititled to Child Tax Credit in addition to the Working Tax Credit and this will be paid at the higher rate for 52 weeks. This will also entitle you to a Sure Start Maternity Grant of £500. If baby is already born you have 3 months to make the application for Sure Start Grant. [Form from anti-natal or Job Centre]
If your income is as low as you say then you will be entitled to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. Just because your income is above the level for Means Tested JSA does not exclude you. You should make an application to your local council asap. Dont forget your tax credits are income too.
When calculating your income for Tax Credits for 09/10 do not forget to take away the first £100pw from SMP. Also ask tax credits to pay you on your current year income and not 08/09.When your on maternity leave you can deduct £100.00 for every week you expect to receive it for a max of 39 weeks. so for example with a monthly wage of £1100.00 x 12 = £13200.00 – if your going to use the max amount of statutory maternity pay (SMP) 39 weeks = £3900.00 deduct that from your yearly income is £9300.00 that would be for this year as an estimate you can ring with the amended figure and it will hopefully mean your entitled to more tax credits. It is also dependent on when you started receiving SMP if it was for example in the last tax year you would have to calculate how many weeks in previous year you were in receipt of SMP and minus from previous years income figure from p60 and any weeks left over carry them into the next tax year and minus from your current year estimated income.
In terms of the job seekers allowance if you told the tax credits that it was Income Based Job Seekers Allowance then what tax credits do is disregard any household income meaning you get the highest rate of tax credits then if you ring up and say its actually contributions based or you havent received it or the DWP inform us which they do then its likely you will be overpaid. If you told the tax credits that it is contributions based job seekers that you were going to receive then its just a case of adjusting your income as we take that as a taxable benefit. Meaning you will be entitled to more tax credits
When the baby is born ring the tax credits and let them know as you will be entitled to child tax credits. Also if your partner finds employment then you may qualify for upto 80% of your childcare costs paid for. If you are planning to take the max amount of SMP and then return to work adjusting your hours then you have to be working at least 16 hours per week to qualify for working tax credits as you will have a qualifying child
Hope this clears this up for you

I have a debt collection agency harrassing me for a debt of £300 ive spoken to them and explained that my part?
October 22, 2009
Firstly you need to do a list of your incomings and outgoings and find the difference between the difference between the two – this is the amount you offer to pay them each month. If the amount is negative then you offer £1 a month as long as your outgoings are practical (no cigarettes etc). Send them the list with a letter explaining that that you are not refusing to pay you just cant afford to pay 300 right now. They are not allowed to harrass you – if you feel harrassed contact the CCCS for advice. http://www.cccs.co.uk/ It’s a free service.

In UK if you are self employed but haven’t made any money for weeks due to the credit crunch and have no money?
October 21, 2009
I’m a self employed white male born and bred in the UK and i tried to sign on loads of times after i lost my job last year and they wont give me any thing.
i’ve not had a job for a year and they still say i’m not entitled to JSA even though i’ve worked all my life up to last year and paid my stamps.
there taking the piss out of me but they might be different with you. This is the risk you take when you are in business. Self employed people cannot claim JSA, partly because they pay a lower rate of NIC and also because the JC would only have your word for the fact you were unemployed – there is no relationship with an employer which has finsihed.

Don’t go to a debt negotiation or debt consolidation company.
They will rip you off in ways you will never imagine.
Go to your library or bookstore and get a good book on debt repair.
It will teach you how to negotiate better terms, lower interest rates, and get lower payments.
You can do anything yourself that these companies do.
You just need to educate yourself.
