Stop at your bookstore (or library) and get a book on credit / debt repair in your finance section.
They will teach you step by step how to negotiate, settle, and reduce interest.
Everything those companies do, you can EASILY do yourself.

These companies will allow your debts to go unpaid for months and months while you accrue late payments and interest.
The thought is to make the creditors nervous enough to settle.
Most don’t and you end up in court anyway
Just google debt negotiation, consolidation, or settlement company comlplaints.
Years of reading of complaints.

If you are way in over your head, or have trouble reading the easy books, there is an organization that can help you.
NFCC.org – is a goverment agency that will help you at no cost.
They can call the creditors put you on a DMP program and possibly reduce your interest rates.
Make an appointment with a local office.

But please, get a good book first. This is easy to do on your own.
You can settle for half of what you owe if you do it right, or bring the interest rates down to nothing with haggling.
